Be careful of Type-At-Home Scams

When preparing our job opening announcement for a data entry operator to work from home, we became aware of how prolific data entry work-at-home schemes and scams have become. The basic concept of these work-at-home schemes is to collect a fee up front with a promise to supply you with work, and perhaps a program. The scam comes after they have taken your money, and don't deliver the promised work and then can't be contacted. Your investment is long gone!

Data 4U is not a part of any scheme or scam. Instead, we have been in the data entry business since 1993 here in the heart of California's Silicon Valley. We have operated a second facility in California's Sierra gold mining area to serve the needs of clients further north.

Through the years we have had several office locations and our employees came in, sat at a keying terminal for their shift, and keyed the assigned documents before punching out at the end of their shift. Later on, we have had some employees set up to do some, or all of their work at home, while dropping in to pick up the documents to be keyed and typically emailing their completed work back to the office for final processing and return to the clients. This gave us flexibility in hiring, minimized the amount of supervision required, and reduced the amount of office space we had to rent. The selected employees liked it too.

With the proliferation of the internet and the ubiquitousness of broadband (DSL & Cable) into our homes, as well as clients who now scan their documents into electronic images instead of couriering them back and forth, Data 4U has been able to use the same internet processes to get the electronic image documents to our keyers in their homes, where they can enter the data and electronically send it back to our location. This saves the keyer driving, gives flexibility to their schedules and for Data 4U saves us renting space and equipment with all the overhead that goes with that and we can draw on a wider area of employees.. It is a win-win for both sides.

When Data 4U takes on a new employee to work at home, we will come to your house and inspect that you have room to work and the required equipment. Then we will install our software on your machine and check that it all works. Then, we continue on to provide training to you on the spot to be sure you are ready to work. The setup and initial training may take around 2 hours.

As you consider working at home as a data entry operator, we encourage you to make the careful distinction between scams and legitimate employment.
